When driving the engine stops without warning signs and "engine malfunction" is displayed. After wating a while the engine malfunction message is gone and the car can be started again and runs fine. Happens after ~15 minutes driving and can be during idling or driving at constant speed. Switch of engine and back on problem went. took to the garage and they did a software update. Problem fully disappeared. 2 months later same problem returns, all the same symptoms etc. Back to the garage, had a new water cooled EGR & Air mass flow sensor. I'll start from the beginning, I have a 2014 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi which I've never really had issues with service regularly etc. Since lockdown I've not really driven the car and about a month ago took it out and got the "Engine Malfunction service Now" message displayed and the car went into limp mode, I've had this once previously in 2018 and It is usually a turbo actuator problem. As far as I can tell, the 1.6TDCI has a vacuum operated actuator, with no position feedback. (The 2.0TDCI & 1.8TDCI both have actuator position sensors). The cog with the explanation mark flashing is the PCM light,eventually your car will go into limp mode,the problem you have is your EGR valve which is located under the fuel filter housing on the right side of the engine if the car eventually fails to start take the ait box of then remove the 5YJELs.
